Zeteo is a 2 semester discipleship group for 5th – 6th grade students.  It’s purpose is to assist parents and students in accomplishing The Parent’s Priority:  to gradually transfer their child’s dependence away from their parents until it rests solely on God.

Zeteo: [zeteo /dzay·teh·o/] v. In the Bible, Zeteo translates as “seek” 100 times, “seek for” five times, “go about” four times, “desire” three times, and translated miscellaneously seven times. 1 to seek in order to find. 1a to seek a thing. 1b to seek [in order to find out] by thinking, meditating, reasoning, to enquire into. 1c to seek after, seek for, aim at, strive after. 2 to seek i.e. require, demand. 2a to crave, demand something from someone.

A Parent’s Priority

These are the commands, decrees and laws the LORD your God directed me to teach you to observe in the land that you are crossing the Jordan to possess,  so that youyour children and their children after them may fear the LORD your God as long as you live…

Deuteronomy 6:1-2

The process begins in the home as Christian faith is nurtured through the hearing of Bible stories, prayer, and worship.  The Church then joins as a partner with the home as the child is brought to Sunday School and other youth opportunities.  As the child grows, greater demands are placed on them.  If we continue teaching at an elementary Sunday School level, our faith won’t grow beyond the elementary stages.  Faith, in order to grow, must be challenged, stretched, and placed under the demands of life and thought.  Zeteo is the beginning of that process.

Unlike Sunday School, Zeteo is a course requiring the commitment of academic work.
