• Every day, hunger-related causes kill as many as 11,000 kids younger than 5 years old.

This is not okay.

• Every night, 925 million people go to bed hungry. That’s roughly 3 times the population of the United States—and it’s 925 million too many.
• These aren’t numbers: They’re people. Imagine if this was your best friend, your brother, your sister. What would you do to help them?

Why God wants us to care

• Kids rate high in God’s eyes. How do we know? Jesus is pretty clear in Matthew 18:5— “Whoever welcomes a little child like this in my name welcomes me” (NIV). But without money for food and other essentials, kids don’t eat. Since that matters to God, it matters to us.
• In Isaiah 58:6-7 (NLT), God tells us what he wants us to do: “This is the kind of fasting I want . . . Share your food with the hungry.”

What we’re going to do about it

• We’re doing the 30 Hour Famine, going without food so hungry kids can eat. This isn’t just another good cause—it’s about loving God and saving kids’ lives.
• You’re going to set a fundraising goal, get sponsors, and collect donations—then cap it off by experiencing hunger and having a blast for 30 hours with your friends.
• Every $30 we raise can help feed and care for a child for a month.
• To come up with your personal fundraising goal, ask yourself: “How many kids do I want to help for a month?” Multiply that number by 30. (Want to help for a year? Go big and multiply the number of kids you want to help by 360.)
• Here’s the really good news: We’re not just helping for a month or a year. We’re helping kids and their families overcome hunger and poverty for a lifetime. Since the Famine started in 1992, the total number of kids who die each day from all causes has been slashed by one-third—dropping from 34,000 to 22,000. That’s thanks to the hard work of a lot of people, including students like you.
